Bikes
In recent years there has been a great emphasis placed by the government on encouraging people to use their bikes and cycle rather than drive. There are numerous advantages stemming from using a bike to travel rather than a car. The direct benefits for you are saving money on fuel, getting your journey time, particularly if you spend a great deal of your commute to work stuck in traffic, and riding a bike everyday will drastically improve your level of fitness.
However, there are also many other advantages too. Firstly, cycling to work rather than driving has a positive impact upon the environment as driving produces harmful emissions. Also, cycling rather than driving can significantly reduce the amount of congestion on our roads if enough people are persuaded to use their bike.
Cycling is also very enjoyable and should not be seen as chore. There is little excuse if you live relatively close to your place of work why you should drive there rather than cycle as there are plenty of cycle paths provide for people on bikes so they don’t have to travel on the roads.
Safe and secure storage of your bike can be a problem in some urban areas though, mainly due to space restrictions faced by city dwellers, especially in locations like the center of London. The best way round this is to invest in some kind of shelving solution which will allow you to make the most of your vertical space. If the existing available shelving doesn't suit then get creative - you can fashion a bike rack from a few old door handles if need be.
